An ethical gift idea
These days, it seems to be getting more important to give ethical gifts. So, if you are looking for something unusual, unique and ethical, then a felted fleece rug could be just the thing.
Felted fleece rugs are really special. Each rug has an ongoing connection to the sheep who provided the fleece to make it. The sheep carries on living its life and getting on with the day to day job of being a sheep. Every year the same sheep can go on to make a new rug. This is why sometimes you will hear these rugs called “vegetarian rugs” because the sheep doesn’t have to die to produce one.
If you’re looking for a sustainable gift then these rugs are a great option. The proceeds from rug sales go towards paying for the upkeep of the sheep who provided the wool to make them. It pays for their hay, straw and sheep nuts, (and they are particularly partial to sheep nuts). Our flock is pretty much sustainable now, whoever said sheep weren’t hard working?
Beautifully Packaged
The rugs come gently rolled up in special oblong boxes and are lined with tissue paper. With each rug I include a photo of the sheep whose fleece was used to make the rug and a little bit of info about the sheep itself (where it likes to be patted or its favourite treat). I also include some info on how to wash the rug because I’m a practical girl.
We like to keep an up to date ‘story blog’ going (see woolly tales). That means anyone who buys or is given a rugs can log in and see what is happening on the smallholding. The stories are predominantly about our animals and, of course, particularly the sheep. There are always plenty of cute photos to browse through.
